WHAT IS LITERATURE?

{1.1} GENERAL CONCEPT OF THE LITERATURE

{A} INTRODUCTION:-

What Literature is ? This question is generally difficult for the define .but I give briefly my ideas about the meaning of literature and do the try to understand what is literature? I also going to give my own think out about the significance of the literature and why we have study ENGLISH LITERATURE? Some reasons and the overview of the relevance of literature in the world of today `s life. I also going to give my expert opinion on the study of ENGLISH LITERATURE and it’s relevance by this paper my main purpose is to define the Literature and study of literature is very useful in present time lifestyle. So, we should read or learn always. Any types of literature.

{1.2} THE DEFINATION ABOUT LITERATURE WHICH IS GIVEN BY SOME GREAT WRITERS.

{1.3} GENERAL DEFINATION OF LITERATURE.

It is difficult to define a term of “literature” but in my opinion the word “literature” is loosely used generally anything literature but all writing is not literature. Literature is a vital record of what man have seen in life and what have experience of it. What they have thought and felt about those aspects of it which have the most immediate and enduring interest for all of us.
A student of literature must be in position to draw a boundriline between literary and non-literary book. Different scholar has different ideas about life for example:-
>> Charles lamb doesn’t consider the works of gibbon as literature. Hallam considers even books of theology and medicine as literature. There are certain qualities which distinguish literary book, from Non- literary book.



{2.1} LITERATURE AS A FINE ART.

>> Literature as a fine art has certain qualities. These qualities are:-

(i) Psychological Truth:-

Literature grows directly out of life whatever is presented, should be related to end truth from human life.

(ii) Originality:-

All good literature is original. In the book of literature a writer expresses his own thoughts, feelings and ideas. There should be authentically and genuineness.

(iii) Craftsmanship:-

Literature is an art the writer must have enough experience about human life and skill to express the experience.

(iiii) A Consciousness or Moral value:-

Literature lives by virtue of life which it embodies means literature supports moral truth. There should be kind of moral lesson in which a good should be rewarded and bad should be punished,

W.H. Hudson in hi book “An introduction to the study of literature” defines literature as an expression of life through the medium of language. According to de-Quincy there are two kinds of literature:-
(1) Literature of power &
(2) Literature of knowledge.

Literature is power is an art, plays of Shakespeare are literature of power
Literature of knowledge is not real literature. It only gives facts and details.
Literature of power is for all people. For all time. In all places. Literature of knowledge is only for limited number of people.

Literature is in my own opinion “the literature is the heart of any subject of language” it is something like the human body cannot stand without the spinal cord, the same as any language of subject is cannot stand without it’s literature.
I am not able for define the term “LITERATURE” it has large meanings “literature is essentially artistic and all art is the expression of life in form of truth & beauty.


{B} WHY DO WE HAVE STUDY ENGLISH LITERATURE?

· We have to study English literature because today in modern time the English is become a world language. English language has its own some qualities. We can know the structure of English language by to learn it.

· When we read any book or a piece of English literature we get the delight or pleasure movement by the reading, and entering into a new world and having our imagination quickened, study of literature in English has one definite object and that is can know only who do the try to learn English literature.

· We have to study of English literature for to improve our knowledge in English when we go to read history of Anglo-Saxons for instance,welearn that they were sea rovers, pirates great eaters, and we can know the social and Geographical background and what they reverend in god and man. So, this all are interesting.

· It is interesting to study English literature in my own opinion like all art is a mere play of imagination, we can get the knowledge by English literature from the Renaissance to modern age in this era from it draw the whole structure of the history of English literature and to get information about the great writers like William Shakespeare ,Ben Jonson,T.S.Eliot ,etc.

{C} STUDING LITERATURE HAS THE RELEVANCE TO THE WORLD IN THAT WE ARE LIVING TODAY.

Today in present world the studding literature has some relevance. Studding literature is very interesting and literature is the expression of the life and personality. Today there is something very much like a mania for the collection and preservation scrap which any great author allowed to remain unpublished, or perhaps threw aside as unworthy of publication but the outcome of such indiscriminate enthusiasm has seldom any solid value. Even apart from these gleanings from the notebook and the wastepaper basket, must writers, even the greatest leave behind then considerable body of published work, which is either tentative and experimental, or in which they are merely echoes of themselves in the literature repeating less effectively what they have all ready said in other forms and adding nothing to the sum total of their real contribution to the world’s literature.

Some Impulses are behind the literature which is responsible for its remaining. 1} our desire for self expression, 2} our interest in people and their doings, 3} interest in both the real and imaginary world, 4} man’s love from for own sake. This qualities are also responsible for to remain and relevance for literature in day to day life.




{D} MY OPINIANS ON THE STUDYOF LITERATURE AND MY OWN OPINIONS ABOUT ITS RELEVANCE.


· Study of literature is an artistic way. We can get the knowledge about any languages literature because the literature is the heart of any language.

· Literature as some qualities these qualities are remains in any language and it relevance in modern time. Literature is artistic, suggestive, and permanent, literature has some tests like universonality and style.

· It is a curious and prevalent opinion that literature, like all art is a mere play of imagination, pleasing enough like a new novel, but without any series or practical importance.

· Literature preserves the ideals of people and ideals love, Faith, duty, friendship, reverence are the part of human life most worthy of preservation.

· Every literature is related with some types of knowledge. It are read any types of literature and to try to understand it we can get the information about it, literature may be in any form may in novel, in poetry, in drama, etc.

· Literature is the most significance for any language of subject. Literature is the spinal cord of any language. We can improve our knowledge in deep and large of any language in the study of literature.

· In our study of the personal life in literature we shall of course be greatly helped by the judicious use of good biography, we can know the himself as a man his social surroundings in which he lived, his out word history, his ambitions, struggles, successes, failures and his intellectual habits and methods of work. The book lives for us in all the potency of his individuality.

· Today in modern world the literature remains in conditions. It has relevance because literature has many reasons which continue it and which are concerned with human life. Generally the literature is the expression of life.

· Literatures which gives delight or pleasure It express the man’s thoughts and feelings. So, we can say that literature is connected with man’s life. Literature is like music or a game. We can enjoy it by the means of the piece literature.

· Every literature want to say something about mans life and its important for the man. The piece of any literature which is also concerned with the human life



{E} CONCLUSION:-

We already seen what is literature and the studying of English literature and the relevance of literature in today life. The study of English literature is very important in present time, because it remains and its relevant is always in literature.

We are now ready. If not to define at least to understand a little more clearly the object of our present study. Literature is the expression of life in words of truth and beauty. It is the written record of mans spirit of his thoughts, emotions, espirations, it is the history and the history of only the human soul. It is cauterized by its. Artistic, its suggestive, its permanent qualities, its two tests are its universal interest and its personal style, its object, aside from the delight it gives us, in to know man rather than his actions and since it preserves to the race the ideas upon which all our civilization is founded. It is one of the most important and delightful subjects that can occupy the human mind.
